Itinerary
Sunday August 2 – 7:42pm leave JFK; KLM 6007
Monday August 3 – arrive Amsterdam 9:15 am; leave Amsterdam 10:35am; KLM 569; 7:55pm arrive Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA); overnight in Arusha at New Safari Hotel
Tuesday August 4 – morning free, afternoon visit Mwangaza Teacher Training Centre; Usa River Rehabilitation Centre; overnight in Arusha at New Safari Hotel (dinner on own)
Wednesday August 5 – 10:10am fly to Bukoba via Mwanza, arrive 4:45pm; housing at ELCT Bukoba Hotel (all meals included)
Thursday August 6 – visit Kibeta English Medium Primary School; housing ELCT Bukoba Hotel (all meals included)
Friday August 7 – visit various diocesan ministries; housing ELCT (all meals included)
Saturday August 8 – morning visit Kibeta English Medium Primary School free afternoon; housing ELCT (all meals included) *this is a national holiday
Sunday August 9 – worship in various diocesan congregations; housing ELCT (all meals included)
Monday August 10 – visit various diocesan ministries; ELCT (all meals included)
Tuesday August 11 – 10:00am fly to Arusha via Mwanza, arrive KIA 3:50pm; overnight in Arusha at New Safari Hotel (dinner on own)
Wednesday August 12 – 9:30am travel to Lake Manyara; Great Rift Valley; wild game viewing; overnight at Bougainvillea Lodge (all meals included)
Thursday August 13 –after breakfast, travel to Ngorongoro Crater for game viewing; overnight at Tarangire Safari Lodge (all meals included)
Friday August 14 – after breakfast game viewing in Taragire National Park; return to Arusha after lunch; free afternoon for shopping, rest etc; leave for KIA 5:00pm; dinner on your own at airport; 9:00pm flight to Amsterdam (we will have several rooms at the New Safari Hotel reserved for those who wish to rest, shower, repack, etc, prior to travel to the airport)
Saturday August 15 – arrive Amsterdam 7:25am; leave for JFK 9:55am; arrive New York 12:05pm
FAQs
How much does it cost? About 5500. Plus additional cost for purchase of flight insurance in the event that you must cancel after purchase of airline tickets. Also personal shopping and some meeals.The trip requires a minimum or 10 plus the group leader to take place. There is a maximum of 15 plus the leader.
Will it be broken up into payments over time, or all at once? Are there scholarships? Fundraisers? Yes payments are broken up. We have a schedule of payments with the commitment payment of 2000 due by January 31, 2020. For scholarships we can explore our options.
Who will be our host/guide leading the trip? TBD . Probably Sheldon. He was an Advent member & has gone on the trip before
Who from Advent is already going and/or leading? The Tanzania Committee (Pastor Gary, Blessing Tawengwa, Jon Dohlin, Gail Wagner, Kerry Butler) is going and we have 2 other people signed up Sheldon and a friend
Why Tanzania? The synod had a companionship program with the diocese and primnary school in Tanzania. For Advent, KEMPS, Kibeta English Medium Primary School isour Companion Synod-sponsored school in Bukoba,
What else will I need to do to prepare for the trip? (passport, medical, etc.) Passport, shots (please talk to your doctor)
Will I be prepped or trained for the trip in any way? Meetings? Bible Studies about accompaniment, etc? Yes.
What is the deadline to decide and/or make a deposit? January 31, 2020
