Congratulations to Rebecca MacLean on the publication of her first book, Lover/Child. Rebecca MacLean shares the story of the love of her life.
A bittersweet love story, Lover/Child traces the 44-year relationship between the author and her longtime partner, Betty Brown. Their sometimes turbulent love affair began at an AA meeting in 1976 and ended with Betty’s death from dementia in March of 2020. Over the course of their relationship, they go from “honeymooning” as an old-time butch and femme couple when that is not in fashion, to fighting with each other over Rebecca’s dream of being an opera singer, to finally Rebecca battling the healthcare bureaucracy as Betty disappears into dementia.
In the end, love really does conquer all, because a life spent loving and being loved is the greatest gift that God can give.
