Field Ed Student
What do you do at Advent?
I am serving as a field education student (basically an intern) for the 2026-2027 academic year. So over the course of the year I will kinda be bopping around, involving myself in a little bit of everything that happens at the church.
Why do you do what you do?
Well the short answer is that this is part of my current degree program. I am in my 2nd year at Princeton Theological Seminary, studying to continue serving as a pastor. But I really love what I do! I love Jesus and the church. I love working with others to help build the kind community where we all take care of one another’s hearts, minds, souls, and bodies.
Why Advent?
I chose Advent as my field education site because, when I visited last year, I heard those words Pastor Danielle always says, “we show up for the community because we are the community” and I saw the truth of it immediately. I think a lot about churches and their relationships with the communities they exist in and I was really drawn to that aspect of how this church understands and lives out its mission. Furthermore, Advent felt like a place where I never needed to explain how I reconcile my faith and identity as a trans person. I got to show up and get right to work, which is exactly what I was looking for.
Talk to me about
*Any* kind of music, the filmography of Hayao Miyazaki, Jesus (obviously), queer stuff (obviously) the importance of toilet humor, the dance between freedom and responsibility, or anything YOU are passionate about!
When I'm not at Advent, you'll most likely find me
Playing in a rock band, advocating for queer students on campus, dancing with my besties, looking for God in strange places, yapping about anything to anybody, or just kinda meandering.
