Advent member Elba Cabrera Receives Award

On Monday, May 6, 2019 our very own Elba Cabrera was awarded the Clara Lemlich Award at Museum of the City of New York for a lifetime of activism and achievement in social justice.

The Awards honor women who have been working for the larger good their entire lives, in the tradition of those who sparked so many reforms in the aftermath of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire over one hundred years ago.

In the words of the Lemlich Awards, “Elba Cabrera, legendary supporter of Latino artists, is one of three sisters who changed the cultural landscape of New York, particularly the Bronx, through literature, literacy, the visual and performing arts, and political advocacy. Her personal relationships with artists and musicians and writers helps expand her service to the Association of Hispanic Arts, the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts, the Hostos Center for Arts and Culture and other cultural institutions.”

Elba was joined by Pastor Gary and several other friends from Advent who celebrated this great honor with her.

Congratulations Elba!
