What do you do at Advent?
I provide musical accompaniment for the services at Advent. I play piano and organ for all the hymns, liturgy and special music.
Why do you do what you do?
Making music is my joy and privilege, especially at Advent. It is an honor and delight to provide the musical setting for people as they enter worship and to guide them as they lift up their hearts and minds to the Lord. Music is a way of uniting hearts toward a common goal of praise and thanksgiving as people center their hearts and respond to the Word at Advent. For me, it is thrilling to hear the congregation as they sing with one voice to God. I couldn't ask for a better job.
I was looking for a job as a church musician and heard about Advent through another church. I was introduced to Frank, they had a need and I was looking to fill it. I began playing music for the Spanish services in the afternoon. After a few months I started playing for the English services as well. The thing that makes Advent special is that they don't just talk a good talk, they walk the walk. The staff and people at Advent are some of the most warm and caring people I have ever met. They truly care about people and give up their time and resources to help others. They have been one of the most welcoming churches I have ever encountered.
Talk to me about . . .
If you play an instrument or sing and would like to be a part of one of the services using your talents then I can definitely help you with that. Or if you just want to talk about music in general, come find me after the service! I love Walking Dead, kickboxing, ballet, Chopin, jeopardy and sugar.
When I'm not at Advent, you'll most likely find me . . .
When I'm not playing piano I like to explore parts of the city I've never been, find new doughnut or cupcake bakeries, sing, do ballet, summer movies in the park and lots of Netflix.
